Midi mapping

Hi everyone,

i have this problem: i have mapped some Dorico commands on an my iPad. The iPad is sending midi notes on chanel 1. Now, when I play a note on my keyboard (Noteperformer) which is already mapped on my iPad, it is performing the command, and won’t play the actual note. How can I fix that and have both independent?
Thanks for your opinions!

Hi Minas, I think you need to check that the MIDI messages that your ipad sends don’t conflict with those of your keyboard, have you already checked that this doesn’t occur?

Thank you Alessandro, I thought about that, and the midi messages of iPad and Keyboard do conflict, but I hoped there is an other solution. Something like changing the midi channel of the key mapping. Still found nothing on it…

I don’t think you can change the MIDI channel of the commands and shortcuts, but you can certainly change the MIDI channel of the VSTs in the playback section, so you could look for a solution like this

It doesn’t actually matter what channel the iPad or keyboard is using to send midi to Dorico. Dorico translates it to the midi channel of the selected instrument. The idea is that you can use your keyboard to enter notes for any stave without having to reconfigure your keyboard, regardless of what channel the instrument may be set for. So, if your instrument is on channel 3 let’s say, and your iPad is on channel 2, Dorico would translate the iPad’s output from channel 2 to 3. If your keyboard uses channel 1, zDorico would translate it from 1 to 3. It is generally very convenient but works against what you are trying to do unfortunately.

Note sure what commands you are sending from the iPad. If they are musical/performance changes it is often best to do that in an expression map - telling Dorico to send the midi command for you when this or that happens. That avoids the translation issue. If you are using the iPad to control Dorico, there is other software you can use that talks directly to Dorico’s remote control api without needing midi. Against not sure of your goal so sorry if I missed the mark.

Gregory, you explained exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for that! I am using my iPad to cotrol Dorico, so which software would you recommend? Thanks again!

I use a Streamdeck, so Streamdeck mobile for IOS is the first one that comes to mind for me. Someone else may chime in.

Thank you Gregory! I will try streamdeck!
