Hi. Iam unable to record midi at the beginning of the selected cycle at left locator. I press record and it starts right at the beginning of the project and stacks notes on top of each other.
I have set midi options to new part and to mix in sub section. Never had this problem before. Programs seem to take ages to load too.

If you are trying to punch in/out at the locators, you should be pressing play with record enabled on the track(s) and punch in/out enabled in transport so that record will start at the left locator.
Thanks for reply. Managed to get recording starting from left locator but when i press keyboard notes the midi shows then disapears when i press stop

For the starting at the beginning, see if you have “start at cycle *or selection” enabled.
The event selection takes priority and overrides the cycle. So you will have to deselect any selection first.
For the MIDI overwrites see your MIDI record options:
They also might be disappearing if you have the auto quantize enabled (The AQ button) but you have your quantize set to a bar, so they all squish over to the edge of the bar.

I did what you described above but the recording still starts from the beginning. I have checked earlier projects and midi recording is fine at any start point. I have a feeling that my current project is corrupt in some way as when I close it it crashes. Never did this before

have you checked your crash file using windbg? You can also upload it here so someone else can have a look at it.
Have you tried to start the project with preferences temporarily disabled? In order to do that hold Ctrl/Shift/Alt (Cmd/Shift/Alt on Mac) right after launching Cubase and pick that option in the dialog window.
Thank you all for your reply’s. Really appreciate it. I decided to open up an earlier version of the same song and low and behold everything is working normally. Midi stable no problems recording no crashing on exit. No idea why Cubase did not like the later version of the song. Fingers crossed it wont happen again. Have deleted the later version.
Sometimes these things happen. You could have imported all tracks into a new project - that’s what I usually do in a situation like this.
