Midi Part Not Sounding -- User Error I'm sure

Cubase 15

I have two MIDI parts on separted by a few measures. The first part is intended to set initial Expression and Modulation levels via articulation values set up in Expression Maps. The second MIDI part is the actual notes (midi events).

If I start playback from the beginning at measure zero, the cursor goes through the Modulation and Expression articulations and proceeds to the second part and the VST sounds.

But if I start the cursor playback after the first part and before the second part, I get no sound. That is unless I put an ariculation value at the beginning of the second part. Then I get sound in the part.

So, it looks like Cubase is not chasing the controller. You can see in the screenshots what I’m talking about.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I’m at a loss, but I know it’s something simple I’m missing.

Hi,

As far as I can see, the MIDI Parts are overlapping. Isn’t there CC1 or CC11 set to 0 in the 1st MIDI Part (hidden by the 2nd MIDI Part) by any chance?

Thanks, Martin

For some reason today, it’s working. I have no idea why. So, I’m glad it’s back to normal.

For the record I don’t think my parts were overlapping. Here’s an image of the Project Window with the two parts in question:

And here’s an image from the Liast Editor of the first part’s MIDI contollers:

And here’s the the controller data from the second part

Thanks for the help. I’m just glad it’s back picking up the controller data.

M.

I think I figured it out. In preferences there is an option to “Chase Not Limited to Part Boundaries”.

I always have this checked, and it was unchecked.

I don’t know how it got unchecked.

But it seems like that was it.

Everything working normally now.
