MIDI ports and Channels

Hello,

I’m using Vienna Ensemble Pro and Vienna Synch Saxes to make up various Sax variations from duet up to full Sax Orchestra and I’m getting a bit baffles by ports and channels.

As you can see from the screenshot, I have Vienna Ensemble with 4 instruments, Soprano is port 1 Channel 1, Alto Port 2 channel 1 etc. All is connected OK and the sound is great. However when I try to mute one instrument on Dorico, each instrument mutes, presumably because they are all channel 1. I exected the channels to be independent from each other as they are for different ports.

This is not a show stopper, I can still mute or solo from within Vienna Ensemble, it’s just a source of bafflement to me.

Thanks

Peter

VSL has it’s own mixer and just sends a single stereo stream to Dorico.

You have all 4 saxes routed to the Master Bus in that image, and then the Master Bus is outputting on OUT 1 / OUT 2. So only that one stereo output is going back to Dorico.

Here’s an example where I have each with a different Channel and different Output, so Dorico’s mixer will see each instrument, not just the 1 signal your Bus is returning.

Thanks to both of you, this makes sense to me.
