I updated to Nuendo 14 when it went on sale last year. But when I started the new app. version, I realized that my MIDI Remote mappings from version 13 had disappeared.
The other day I recreated the mapping I had previously lost, thinking that it would stay intact since I haven’t updated anything Steinbergish lately.
Then, I began opening some older song files in Cubase 13, not thinking this would have any affect on what’s happening in Nuendo.
Anyway, today I’m recording some MIDI piano tracks in Nuendo 14 and thought it would be convenient to use the mappings that I had created the other day.
They’re gone. Again.
Question: can someone tell me PRECISELY how to SAVE a MIDI Remote mapping for future import — for whenever I next lose my mappings? And what is the file’s suffix (these JSON files appear to have no use for importing).
And, is there a chance that we can get an update to v14 of Nuendo that might fix this? I don’t want to upgrade just to get what I thought I was paying for since Cubase 12 came out…

Don’t know if this can help (probably not), but just in case, and only if you are working on a Mac and have an iCloud account with more than one computer connected.
I had exactly the same last year (in Nuendo 13). All my Midi Remote mappings were lost, but also my preferences/key commands.
The problem was that I did a synchronisation of ‘My Documents’ to my iCloud account. This way my preferences were gone. By reloading the ‘my documents’ folder from an older Time Machine backup, all my midi remote mappings and preferences were back there.
But again, this was a synchro problem.

I think my situation was either caused by going back to work in Cubase 13 and then returning to Nuendo 14 (which would make no sense if both have their own individual program preset folders within “Documents” — or a glitch in the software that doesn’t allow the feature to work as promised.
I’ve heard people say that it was solved in an update for Cubase 15. But that doesn’t help me.
I’m exporting the script now — assuming the worst and hoping for the best that it will be recoverable in case I lose my settings again.

UPDATE: I started up Nuendo 14 today to do a vocal session using the mappings that I had created the other day for my Novation 49 MKIII midi controller.
RESULT: All of the settings were lost again and MIDI Remote reverted back to its default settings for my controller.
Luckily, I had exported my custom settings using “export script” the other day. But when I imported it, only the same default settings were available and my custom mapping page was missing. “Default” mapping was my only option.
Based on this behavior and previous experiences, I would suggest that there is clearly something broken in Steinberg’s flagship recording DAW in regards to using custom controller settings that have been programmed by the user — they are neither saved nor retrievable, despite the appearance of an “export” function.
So, is this a matter for customer service? Or is that a waste of time? And further to that, is it now my responsibility to solve the problem by paying for an upgrade wherein that feature actually works as advertised?
If anyone has a suggestion as to what I might be doing wrong, I’m open to any informed ideas or workflow fixes that are proven to work for them in Nuendo versions 14 or lower.
