MIDI Remote : the order of the faders is different from that of the MixConsole

Hello,

After the Windows 11 MIDI Service update (decided by Windows…), I lost my MIDI Remotes!

I had to rebuild my Roland A-300PRO Midi Remote from scratch… The GUI is quite different from the one I used years ago (I’m now on Cubase Pro 14, not 15). I have selected G (Global) for each parameter, to be sure to find the same model in every project.

I have tried it in a new project, and there is one problem I think there wasn’t in my previous model: the volume faders don’t follow the order of the MixConsole. It’s very confusing (I could move the tracks but… no). I have tried to click on the Reload script button. It updates things like channel colours, but not the order of the channels.

Is this a known problem? Is it fixed in Cubase 15?

Hi,

Could you attach a screenshot of the MIDI Remote window and MixConsole side by side, please?

Hello Martin, thank you for answering.

Today I opened Cubase and the MIDI Remote model was working… except the faders, which were moving but “unmapped”… Only the Stereo Out fader worked well.

I remapped them into an existing 8 track project (clicking in the MixConsole, on each fader while being in the Mapping Assistant, then Apply) and clicked on G (Global) for every function. That worked.

Then I opened another project with 8 instances of Korg Triton plugin.

The fader work, but are not in the same order as in the MixConsole. 2 are marked “Missing”.

Please watch screenshot. Obviously I could remap this particular project, but it’s time consuming.

Hi,

This is MixConsole 1, right?

Could you attach a screenshot from the assignment in the Mapping Assistant, please?

Hi Martin,

Yes, MixConsole1.

Here you can find a screenshot of the assignments. I think I know why 2 are “missing”. I created this global MIDI Remote model in a project where 2 tracks were MIDI tracks. Apparently, if you include different kinds of tracks in your model, and if your next project has other kind of tracks, Cubase can’t understand. I did the assignment just by clicking on the faders. For me that means I want this physical fader 1 to control the Cubase fader 1, whatever the type (MIDI, instrument).

You can see that for the other tracks, the order is Triton 2, 5, 4, 3, 6. Strange (when I created the assignments, I carefully clicked on track 1, then track 2…). I could certainly reorder this in every project and choose “P” assignments… But I remember creating my first remote model, maybe on Cubase 11 (?), and the model worked directly in every project. I even think that I could reorder the tracks in the project view and the MIDI remote followed that (or I’m dreaming maybe).

Or I’m missing something. Maybe it will be fixed when I upgrade to CP15.

Big thanks anyway.

Hi,

In Cubase, the assignment is done to the track slots. So if you make the assignment to tracks nr. 1, 2, 4, 5, it will be the same in the other project: 1, 2, 4, 5.

Yes, normally it works like that.

I think I will continue to use my MR model and adapt it for every project with the “P” button. And maybe when I upgrade to Cubase 15 it will be better.

A last question, please. Do you use MIDI remotes with volume faders on your systems, and if yes, what happens when you move a track in the project view or in the MixConsole? Does the order in the MIDI Remote change?

Hi,

As I said, the faders are assigned to the slots. So if I have the following assignment:
| Cubase Channel Nr. | Track Name | HW Track Nr. |
| 1 | A | 1 |
| 2 | B | 2 |
| 3 | C | 3 |

And I move the track A below track C, then it looks like this:
| Cubase Channel Nr. | Track Name | HW Track Nr. |
| 1 | B | 1 |
| 2 | C | 2 |
| 3 | A | 3 |

So the fader assignment is not bind to the track (like track A is on fader 1). The hardware mirrors MixConsole 1 order.
