Midi Script for RD-2000

Hi Cubase Forum

I used Cubase element 12 for few years in windows 10 and use a dongle to interface with my old Roland Sound canvas SC-55 and a Korg Sp-250 as midi controller.

Editing and also playing commercial MIDI songs Tracks in paralell of myself playing an instrument on the keyboard through a midi channel.

This keyboard died recently i bought a Roland RD-2000EX stage piano.

I want also to replace my SC-55 Roland SOund Canvas that is now unsafed for live performance.

I have installed all vendor drivers (Roland) for this stage piano and it is well detected and recognized in Cubase as new MIDI output and input.

when playing a .MID song in Cubase, i am unable to map RD-2000 instruments correctly as i was able with my old SC-55 box.

With the old SC-55, (127 tones) it was easy since you can assign in cubase any track to separated midi channel and assign an instrument (127 Tones) including midi channel #10 which is usually used for percussion and drums.

Since an RD-2000EX is a more sophisticated midi device with over 1150 sounds/Tones

(They are also grouped by Main Categories (10) and sub categories(52)

such CONCERT: Concert, STUDIO: Studio piano, Honky-Tonk, SA piano , etc..

VINTAGE: Tine E piano, Reed E Piano, etc..

Each instruments have their own Number (alphanumeric or numeric)

Q1: Do i need to load a RD-2000 external MIDI script in order to have cubase mapping definition ? (Sorry i am relatively new with new technology in cubase)

I have found such script at Roland US website

Q2: i have tried to import a Midi external script for RD-2000 in cubase as per as instructions without success receiving error (Script archive could not be imported)

User manual and forum similar issue and fixes do not match

Can someone provide clear instructions about

what file extension type (JS, PDF, TXT) we should use AND

in which windows directory we should store the script file to be recognize by Cubase.

Q3: Assuming script is correctly imported, can someone tell me how we assign a specific tone to a midi channel (which fields in Cubase i need to used

(Channel = Midi channel, Bank selector= ???, Program selector= ???)

I assume that i need this script loaded in order to be able to correctly assign instruments/Tones to Cubase Tracks

Any help is more than welcome

thks in advance

Marc

Which version of Cubase you have? Cause it seems the MIDI Remote API is a Pro only feature unless someone from Steinberg says otherwise.

Recently I’ve uploaded a script for the Fantom EX. I have some info for its installation here:

Is this the same kind of file you have for the RD-2000? Could you provide a link to check it?

The API works in all available versions. However, scripts for MIDI instrument patches are a different thing, nothing to do with the MIDI Remote.

I am using Cubase element V12, the standard RD-2000 remote script file i used is the standard remote script available at ROLAND US website

Looks pretty similar to the one for Phantom

Is this maybe a matter of your SC-55 using General Midi and your RD-2000 not (yet)?

I don’t think the RD-2000 can be put into MIDI GM (or GS) mode like the Sound Canvas.

At least I couldn’t find any evidence for it in the user manuals.
