Hi.
I have midi parts being sent to multiple vst instruments. For example a violin being sent both to a real string library and a violin synth for some fullness in the sound. To do this I have a midi channel with my midi notes and modulation information, then I send to the required vst instruments using the MIDI Sends in the inspector tab on the left when I select the channel. I find the name of the instrument(s) to which I must send by looking at the vst instruments in my project (F11). At first it works fine, but then something is altering the instruments to which my midi information is being sent, so suddenly I’ll find my violin midi information is no longer being sent to my violin vst but instead a bass vst so I have to re-assign the send.
In the attached image you see an example. Violin II is being sent to midi channel 2 to 4 different instruments on the left (and that’s what keeps changing)
Could it be that the send is based only on the vst instrument order and not the name, so when I add a new instrument the midi sends have to be re-assigned? Or is this not normal behaviour?
It’s very annoying. Help would be very much appreciated! Thank you!
P.S. I’m on mac, cubase 12.
Hi,
Could you please attach a screenshot, how does it look like before (when you set it up) and after (when it changes)?
What happens inbetween? Do you Disable the track by any chance?
How does the real MIDI data go? Are the MIDI data sending to the wanted Send destination or the the presented one? Isn’t it just a visual issue?
Hi,
Do you know, what has changed between these 2 states by any chance?
Hi Martin, What do you mean states?
From what I can see, only the midi sends have changed (or been forgotten), but I couldn’t tell you what I have changed in the project to make this happen. It could be I just restart cubase, like if I come back to it the next day. It could be that it changes while I’m working on a project. I’m not sure what the cause is though.
Sometimes they’re forgotten and it says “Missing: Input 1”. Sometimes it will start sending to a different instrument, so for example I restart cubase and now my violin I midi information is being send to a french horn.
It’s quite confusing. I’ve stopped using these midi sends like this for the time being until I can work it out.
Thanks for your time.
Hamish
Hi,
I mean, what happened from the time/state, it was OK and the state it’s not correct anymore. Did you close and re-open the project? Did you Disable/Enable the track? Freeze it, …?
Oh. So I guess I’ve answered that above. It could really be any of the above. I haven’t been freezing many tracks recently, and haven’t enabled or disabled any tracks either so I wouldn’t say it was that. But it’s certainly happened after a re-opening of the project.
I could do some more detailed tests…? What would you suggest?
