MIDI Track Jumps

I have a strange problem that happens quite a bit. When I click on a MIDI track in the project window the track moves up or down a couple of slots. It’s as if I clicked and dragged the MIDI track. I can even go up to the edit menu and it gives me the option to undo move track. When it starts happening, I have to restart.

I searched for this problem and couldn’t come up with anyone reporting this.

Thanks,
Aaron

Hm… post your OS and what mouse you are using.

I’m using 10.11.6 (El Capitan) and Apple’s Magic Mouse (stock with 2013 iMac). I also tried another mouse to see if that was the problem.

Very strange. It sounds like you have some utility running that assists the mouse in some way, or a mouse gesture program (or somesuch) that triggers a script in response to the move you make with the mouse.

Something like BetterTouchTool, or MagicPrefs

That’s a very good suggestion Steve. I’m not in my studio at the moment, but I’ll check that out later this afternoon. I don’t recall any programs like that installed, but it’s possible I installed something and forgot.

The problem isn’t always there, but it happens pretty frequently. Oddly I only have the problem on my big template. When I just do a small project without involving my slave computer and VEP it doesn’t happen or at least I don’t recall it happening.

Aaron

This is such an annoying problem. I made a video of what is happening.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Well I tried filling out a support ticket, but the page doesn’t have any choices in the drop down menu that asks what product you are using. You cannot proceed unless you choose something, but there isn’t a choice. I tried a couple of different browsers.

I watched the video, I don’t know what could be happening! Have you done a Cubase Safe Start to see if there is a prefs corruption? (https://www.steinberg.net/nc/en/support/knowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/safe-start-mode-resetting-the-cubase-preferences.html)

Also, if your USB key is registered you should see Cubase listed under “My Products” with a Request Support button.

Hi Steve,

I have not done a Cubase Safe Start, but I will try that. My USB key is licensed and I was able to get to the support page, but what happens is the drop down menu for choosing your product does not present any options - it’s blank. I tried 3 different browsers. Because the required field cannot be filled in, I can’t submit the form.

Here is what happens - http://agarnermusic.com/support.mp4

Perhaps I’m missing something obvious.

Thanks,
Aaron

I discovered a fix, but it’s unusual what is happening. Basically if I click on the right side of a track it jumps up a couple of positions. If i click on the left it doesn’t jump.

Here is a video of what happens. http://agarnermusic.com/mouse2.mp4
