Hello Doricans…
I have 2 computers both running Windows 11 and Dorico 5.1.70. I have a modified keycommands_en.json file residing on computer A that I would like to make available on computer B. It works great on A, but when I transfer it to the exact same location on computer B it doesn’t work… ( I’m dealing with the file in …/appdata/roaming/Steinberg/Dorico 5 )
hints/help appreciated !
Can you be a bit more specific about the way in which it doesn’t work? Do none of the shortcuts from the file appear? Do any shortcuts at all appear?
Hi and thanks for your speedy response! I reinstalled D on the target machine and it seems all default shortcuts work, but none from the roaming file… Machine A is in another country, but I’m 100% sure everything worked there before I put the file in the dropbox for transfer home…
EDIT
observations that may be related…?
- If I try to enter a key command that is already taken. I’m offered a choice to replace it. However, this never works. The command remains associated with the original task …
- 9 out of 10 times Dorico will not start unless I rightclick the icon and select “run as administrator” …
If you move your custom key commands file out of the way, then restart Dorico and create a custom shortcut directly in the application, is the new user key commands file correctly created in the expected place? If so, try quitting Dorico again, and replacing the newly-created file with the one you’ve copied over from the other machine, and start Dorico again.
Also be sure that you have the correct keyboard language chosen on the Key Commands page of Preferences – this is newly important in Dorico 5.1.70 due to some under-the-hood localisation changes.
Interesting… In my roaming folder I had left a file (re)named ‘1keycommands_en.json’ (from my attempts to solve the mystery) As soon as I removed that and put back MY file with the correct name, it started working normally. Is it possible that D could be confused by that other file? Seems strange to me, but anyways, now it works! Thanks!
