Migrating large templates to new Folder with Group Channel system (Cubase 15.0.20)

Hi all,

with the new Cubase 15.0.20 update introducing folder tracks with integrated group channels, I’m currently trying to rethink my template workflow.

My existing templates are fairly complex, lots of group tracks, submixes, nested folders, and carefully routed signals (e.g. drums, guitars, orchestral sections, etc.).

Now I’m wondering:

How are you approaching the transition to the new folder + group track system?

Specifically:

  • Are you rebuilding your templates from scratch, or adapting existing ones?
  • Is there a smart way to convert existing folder + group setups into the new combined structure?
  • How do you handle projects with many nested groups or multiple routing stages?
  • Any pitfalls or things that break when switching over?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people working with large templates (film scoring, mixing templates, etc.).

Would love to hear how you’re handling this in practice.

Thanks,
Tom

Not figured out a whole workflow yet but one thing that really helps speeding things up is that you can ctrl/cmd + C on an existing old group channel and ctrl/cmd + V on the new folder channel to copy fader, insert, send settings etc.
So:

  1. Create new folder channel
  2. Drag all relevant tracks into it
  3. ⌘+C on old deprecated group channel
  4. ⌘+V on new folder channel
  5. Delete group channel

Works pretty flawless for me.
As long as you start with the most deeply nested one first and work your way outwards it should be a pretty smooth process.

Cubase handles the routing of nested folder tracks automatically, so it’s pretty much drag and drop. Genuinely so well implemented.

In fact, it’s even easier as you can directly convert the folders into a folder channel. So you can literally just convert them, copy paste, delete old group channel, done.
