Minimum acceptable gap between staves for orchestral parts

I have a movement for string orchestra for which the default stave distances mean that it is spread over three pages, and there is absolutely nowhere that I can put page turns. Gould mentions some solutions, but I’d also be interested to know how small, in users’ experience, could the gap be between staves and still be acceptable to the player, possibly with a small reduction in staff size. This, for instance, is an example of having 11 staves on a first page on A4 paper, with staff size reduced to Rastral 4:

It’s much more tightly packed than what I’m used to supplying, but is it better than the other workarounds?

The minimum distance between two staves for string instruments must be sufficient for the player to insert bowings and, if necessary, fingerings. And especially for string players who share a music stand in pairs, the rastral size should be at least 3.

Unfortunately the standardization of modern printers to A and letter sizes forces us to disadvantageous page layouts, the wonderful suitable, established B (intermediate) paper sizes for sheet music will get lost.

In my opinion (and experience) the readability overall has a higher priority over the sound reduction of the one second page turn of half the strings section.
