First, see the attached screen shot. No matter what I put in — snare drum, snares off. Side Stick, etc. I get the side stick. Is it because I’m using the one-line instead of a five-line staff?
If I play anything on the keyboard, it plays correctly. Note Performer shows each name correctly.
One-line or five-line should not have any effect. I would guess incompatibilities between playing techniques for the instrument and the percussion map for it.
For example, if I create a Snare Drum player with everything as defaults, the Snare Drum has 4 playback techniques: Natural, Rim Shot, Cross Stick, Side Stick. But by default the instrument was assigned to Iconica Sketch, and the Iconica Sketch percussion map assigned has Natural, Roll, Tremolo, Trill. I can change the techniques for each note in the MIDI editor, and I see the correct noteheads. But playback doesn’t (can’t) work right. I always get Natural since the other techniques aren’t found in the map.
I don’t know if there are other issues specific to Note Performer.
It could also be that all the notes actually have the Side Stick technique. I think the easiest way to see it is in the MIDI editor. Each note should have an event in the proper lane for the technique. You can drag them up and down to change techniques.
I did some more testing and found out another thing.
I added techniques “Snares off” and “Snares on” to the Snare Drum instrument, with unique noteheads. Then in the score I attached the playing techniques TEXT “Snares off” and “Snares on” to some notes. I could see in the MIDI editor that the notes were still playing Natural. I dragged the events in the piano roll to the lanes for “Snares off” and “Snares on”, and
- the noteheads changed as I had defined them
- the proper entries in the Percussion Map for those techniques were being reached
So, some technique indications in the score automatically affect playback, and others don’t. (I’m nowhere near a Dorico expert. I learned things in this test.)
Thank you. I’ll look this tomorrow.
