Missing Audio Handles to Ajust Fade In and Out in Audio Clips - I've done something wrong

I’ve opened an Audio Clip from the timeline to edit (new window) but I don’t have a pointer tool. And the handles to adjust the amplitude are missing.

I feel like I’ve inadvertenly done something to my interface prefs to create this sitution but I don’t know what it is. Show Event Volume Curves is set to Always in Preference. Use Mouse Whell for Event Volume and Fades is checked on.

AI is being no help. Bad Google… bad google. Go sit in corner.

Thanks for the help in advance.

So a little further investigation and it looks like when I double click and Audio Event, the new window it opens in (I assume an Event Window. At the edges of the clip it says “Event Start” and “Event End”. No Object Selection tool is there. Dissolve Part is greyed out in the Audio dropdown.

Still confused

Fade handles are on the events in the arrange window….not in the audio editor. Don’t try to open it , just grab the corner of the event.

NB: Alternatively in the editor you select a range and then choose audio/processes/fade in/out…..but adjusting the event playback is simpler option.

Thankyou! I suspected that might be the case. I wonder why they wouldn’t have them in the audio editor as well. Without having to apply the extra step.

I don’t use audio that often. I’m used to double clicking to open my midi on a second monitor. I guess I can set up a double click to an have the track open in place but at a higher vertical height. I’ll try that. It’s hard to work with the handles in the event when you keep your tracks very narrow, like me.

Ok, I’ve got it now. What I was looking for was a way to do complicated gain staging in a spoken audio track where many adjustments had tube made. Found Cubase’s tutorial on that and understand it a lot better now.
