Missing fonts warning and peculiarity in fixing it

I have been getting a Missing fonts dialog box every single time I open Dorico and then open the project I am working on. They come from a Finale MXL import and are Times Roman. They are staff attached text in three different sizes. The project is a through-sung musical and the text presents short stage directions to give the conductor some idea of what is going on on-stage. After clicking “OK” then quitting Dorico then relaunching it, the fonts did not change to Times New Roman. They remained Times Regular (which is Postscript. The imported file goes back a long way.).

I then went through them one by one, clicking on the text and then hitting return to bring up the text edit box, and then changing the font to Academico. I then saved and closed the project and then Dorico. Opening Dorico again, I did not get the Missing fonts dialog, but, checking the text entries, their type was now Times New Roman, not Academico–and the paragraph type is Times Regular. There are three Times Regular paragraph styles at the end of the list, each with a different font size, with an XML designation.

I’m new at getting into this level of detail with Dorico fonts and styles. I created a new paragraph style called “Stage direction” and would like to change all of the “Times Regular” text entries to that style. Is it possible to do that globally, or do I have to search through my project and change them one by one?

Dorico remembers what you select as a replacement in the Missing Fonts dialog, and should then fill in that choice whenever the missing font comes up. Any new document that has the missing font should get the replacement font offered in the dialog – but once you’ve pressed OK on the Missing Fonts dialog, then you won’t see it again for that document.

I’d recommend NOT importing font style information, because otherwise, you’ll end up with each text object having its own style – as if you just selected the font in the text controls without setting up a Para Style.

That way, everything will come in as “Default Text”, and it’s a one-step operation to change them all.

You can select a whole bunch of Text objects and change the Paragraph Style, though.
