Missing HSO & Iconic expression maps

Hi,

Another problem:

I just added a string section to a piano project and when I tried writing something, no articulations, techniques, etc. worked for the Iconica strings. I checked and found that I’m missing all the HSO & Iconic expression maps.

I did reinstalls of Dorico, Iconica and still nothing.

What am I doing wrong?

Did you try reapplying the Play menu > Playback template? (or change to another, then back again, or choose the Auto setting at the top)

Arco,

thank you very much. The auto did it. I wonder what happened that all the E.M.’s disappeared?

In any case, I appreciate your help.

Thanks

It does happen from time to time (at least, previously) presumably sometimes when adding more players/instruments, but perhaps the Auto setting is designed to take care of this in a better way, otherwise reapplying it is the first step to try.

It sounds like Dorico isn’t picking up the expression maps. A few things to check:

  1. Make sure the .xml expression map files for HSO & Iconica are in Dorico’s Expression Maps folder.

  2. Double-check the VST instruments are loaded correctly—Dorico can’t link maps if the plugin isn’t recognized.

  3. Try Play > Expression Maps > Reset/Import Expression Maps to force Dorico to detect them.

  4. If you installed in a custom folder, Dorico might not find the maps, manually pointing to them can help.

Usually it’s a path or detection issue rather than a reinstall problem.

Dorico 6 has changed this dialog. If you want to see all the factory EMs hit the Show all Factory button.

Do you mean “Expression Maps”, or “Playback Templates”?

It’s possible that Dorico only loads the expression maps as required by the playback template.

Good point (Morning brain fog!)
