I’m trying to use VST Live Mods in lyrics view, but most of the time I do not see the lyrics displayed. Let me describe my workflow:
I have a folder which contains folders for each song in the catalog. Each of these song folders has a Cubase project in it. I also export the vlsprj file into the same folder. The lyrics show up great on my laptop, but when I try to use VL Mods on my ipad, 99% of the time the lyrics are not displayed. My guess is that there is an issue with how I have the project folders laid out.
Is there someplace in the docs that you can point me to with best practices on file system layout for my install?
Thanks
Eric
Hi @ericwentz,
are you running the latest version (1.1.66) of the VST Live Mods app? Tap to the VST LIVE MODS label in the upper, right corner. Then the About view will appear.
I’ve tried to get it reproduced and moved the Lyrics Track to a folder. But the Lyrics are still displayed for the MODS app. Do I have a chance to get access to your project? You can PM me.
Thank you,
Michael.
Hi Michael,
I created a new .vlprj file and imported some of my tracks - then new project file seems to have eliminated the “no lyrics” issue.
I do have a couple of suggestions for the VL Mods app on the iPad
- I’d like to see a resizing “widget” on the lyrics page so that I can adjust the vertical line spacing (or use the pinch/zoom gestures to change the spacing)
- I’d like to see a font size option for this view as well - maybe tracking the font size on the VL Lyrics page?
- I’d like to see a song “progress bar” on the iPad.
Thanks for your hep & consideration. - eric
Hi @ericwentz,
… that’s already on the list.
… that one, too.
… ah, yes. Good one. I have noted it down.
Thank you for your suggestions,
Michael.
Similar problem: I just started using VST Live Mods (v 1.1.67.106 - VST Live v2.1.21.236) and it wont display any of my lyrics.
It says “Online”, and the VST Mods screen will scroll in time with the VST Live playback… but no lyrics are displayed. I can see the lyrics on my VST Live laptop, so I know they’re there, but VST Mods doesn’t display them. What am I missing? I couldn’t find any documentation on this, or on VST Live Mods at all.
Hi! Could you first try out the newest VSTL build from here:
Hi @BPage
@fkalmus is right. Every Friday we are trying to release a new Pre-Release. It’s always good to install the latest version which is mostly much better than the version from the “Steinberg Download Assistant” (SDA). If a Pre-Release is good enough for Public, it will be added to the SDA.
But here comes another good news, @ericwentz and @BPage: Some days ago we’ve found a deep bug in the MODS app which can results in missing lyrics. A new MODS version is coming very soon!
See you,
Michael.
OK. I usually avoid installing any beta or pre-release versions of anything, especially with a gig right around the corner… but I went ahead and installed the latest version (2.1.33.275). It did not solve my lyric problem. Hope the new Mods version is available soon. Thanks!
That’s awesome - thanks Michael.
I know you’re not going to release something based on my personal timetable, but I’ve got a gig on Thursday night and the fix for the MODS lyric display issue would be a lifesaver if you can release the new version by then. (Can’t hurt to ask, right…?)
Hi @BPage,
… Thursday is tomorrow? Even if we would like to release a new version for tomorrow, we would have no chance, because we need to submit a new version to Apple. Apple will then check this version before it can be released. That takes time, too.
We are busy working on a new version which is coming soon. You can read more here.
As a workaround you need to edit the Lyric-Events in VST Live. Edit? You need to change the duration of the event.
See you,
Michael.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to here… I don’t see any option labeled “Duration”. In the Lyrics window, I tried changing the “Length” of each line of lyric text but that didn’t solve the problem. I also tried changing the “End” point of the lines but that didn’t make a difference either.
The lyrics will display in Mods for some songs, but not others. And I can’t see any difference between them to understand why they show in some songs & not the rest.
Yes, as I said in my previous post, I changed that field and it made no difference. I tried bigger numbers, smaller numbers… I tried the exact same length number from the songs that do display properly, but it didn’t fix anything. The lyrics still do not display in Mods, even though they show properly in VST Live.
I guess, Michael’s theory is if reducing lenght (duration), the frame gets smaller so wont overlap the next line in the lyrics.
I’m sorry you couldn’t fix your problem, wishing a great gig btw!
… @BPage, sorry that we did not make the Thursday. But now 1.5.0 of the Mods application is online. This should solve your problems, yes?
… @ericwentz, all is fine you, too? With V1.5.0?
/Michael.
I understand you’re not on my timetable, I appreciate the effort. But, well, no, 1.5.0 didn’t solve my problem. I still have 3 out of 5 songs where the lyrics don’t display at all in Mods (but work fine in VST Live 2.1.36.284).
Also, the song title in the top bar doesn’t refresh. It grabs the title of the song selected when it first connects to VST Live, but when I switch to other songs, the old title stays in the top bar.
Hi @BPage,
I am sorry.
… is it possible to get access to the project? Can you send me link to download the project, PM?
… we’ll check,
Michael.
