Mix Console: Why does it only scroll a channel to the left or right edge instead of centring?

As above…I know this was an issue many years ago…surely it have been fixed by now? I tried to trick it by selecting the last track in folder first but there are no first/last tracks ini a folder for PLE. This hack worked for early Live API shortcomings

What it does

What it should do

Hi,

This has not been fixed because it works as specified.

The specification doesn’t say to place the selected track in the centre. The specification says to scroll as little as possible to make the channel visible.

It is at odds with the project window behaviour though and more modern workflows.

I think what your are saying is probably reasonable for low track count…single track ie serial arrangements but I would like to highlight that in larger projects or if you are a modular workflow, folders and grouping making life much faster as you can fly around the channels and its really important to have both ie

  1. If you are a small track count/old school workflow then edge visible

  2. if you work in groups of tracks as a topic eg guitars, drums, you generally work most of the time as an entity so would be very good to have “centre track in console”

This of course mirrors what happens in the project window where a track selection centres the window on the selection…would be good to have it consistent behaviour or at least an option

My template starts out with an 8 groups x 8 tracks…so you can just scroll with a modifier or hit a jump to button with gestures…its all a journey but the ended up putting that in the Live API for good reason.

Play the clip below; this is realtime…if all the tracks are open ie wide zoom, you can hit a key on streamdeck and jumps you straight to the group/hold opens/close selected group.

Scoll Folders 2

I had no idea “the specification” is a human being.

Hi,

Sorry, the English language is not my first language.

But this allows you to complain about it.

Ich verstehe
You are doing well…ignore @Johnny_Moneto hehe

What ever you say, boss.

@Johnny_Moneto do you think the channel centre in the console?

but why when this behaviour is not optimal? Often tracks are part of groups and have relationship, there should absolutely be an option at least. At least in live I could have api pull the group into view or centre the selected channel
