Mixer issue - everything coming down the wrong track

I’m having problem with the mixer. I have 3 or 4 VST tracks and everything else is Note Performer. But when I open the mixer, all my woodwinds are playing on the vocal ref track. The VST tracks seem to be correct however. Is this a NotePerformer problem.

I reloaded my Playback template (which erased all my VST instruments, thank you very much :grimacing:) but that didn’t solve the problem. AT least it put my mixer tracks in the proper order (except the VST instruments, because they had to be added again after reloading the Playback Template. Hence they can NEVER be in their proper place.)

I should mention that because this is a score for the theater, a number of the woodwind players have multiple instruments. Could this be causing the problem?

thanks -

NotePerformer uses its own mixer. You need to open the NotePerformer UI to access it.

Then why are there channels for every one of my NotePerformer tracks in Dorico’s mixer? Just to look pretty?

Dorico creates those channels in the mixer as a matter of course, but NotePerformer sends all of its output to the first channel.

If you reloaded the NP playback template, then what did you expect? NP knows nothing about your other VSTs! It simply tries to allocate all instruments in the score to a slot in the NP mixer.

NP is a special case regarding playback (as @sjanssens says)

If you want to retain your own VSTs in addition to NP, then you should create your own Playback Template with those preferences.

Note that Noteperformer 5 can output to separate channels.

… except the latest NP has been downgraded to 4.x?? (I get confused over the NPPE issue)

No, the latest is 5.01. But you can get the 4.5.1 also.

So, if you need to retain NPPE (and must downgrade) then you cannot “separate stereo outputs”?

(I’m not trying to be obtuse. Personally I’m in limbo using @benwiggy’s GPO NPPE on NP5.0, which works remarkably well, so unwilling either to upgrade to NP5.01 or downgrade to NP4.5.1)

Correct. But I think you can do that in NPPE instead.

Jesper

5.0 is the only one that will work with @benwiggy GPO I think, so don’t up or downgrade.

Jesper

The option to separate stereo outputs is also available on NP 5.0. I don’t know if using NPPE affects that.

Thanks - don’t mind me I’m just musing. Your GPO NP engine was a bit of a breakthrough and the separate outputs thing is actually not important for me. I was on a little thought experiment. I don’t want to relitigate the NPPE saga. So let’s just drop it.

Correct me if I’m wrong - if I upgrade to NP 5 I can have separate outputs but I can’t add NNPE for better sounds? Is that correct?

As I understand, you can no longer upgrade to NP5.0.

You can only upgrade to NP5.0.1 (which has removed the NPPE capability, but does allow separate outputs)

Yes
I never used NPPE but from what I understood, you can get separate output from NPPE 4.5.1 also but not with just the built in sounds. And you set it up in NPPE.
