Mixer not assigning instruments properly

Hi, I don’t know if this is a topic already discussed, but I am using Dorico 5. I have assigned the instruments to the correct channels via Track Inspector, and the instruments are playing correctly as intended.

However, I noticed the panning wasn’t right. Upon further investigation, I found out the Dorico Mixer is causing this issue as demonstrated in the video. I intended to pan the Piano sound to the left speaker, but it’s way to the right, which is how the Timpani is set. How do I set the Mixer to its proper instruments?

Hi @abaracuda2786, did you try to make use of a specific Playback Template to assign the sounds automatically? In case you want to try, on a duplicate copy of your Project, you could (Re)Apply one of the Factory Playback Templates (the ones with the little factory icon near them): from menu Play>Playback Template…choose one that contains “Iconica Sketch” for example and click Apply and close) and see if this sorts things out.

If you have a manual setup for your sounds (which is prone to errors as it seem the case in your example), please upload you original Dorico Project to see what is going on.

I set my instruments up manually. But I can only upload up to 4 MB, so this site says. And my file is 44.7 MB. Is there another way?

Edit: I think I found a way via Google Drive. Let me know if you have trouble accessing it.

G-drive It is asking for access…

edit: never mind, I am able to download now…

Try now. I updated it to “Anyone with the link.”

Sorry, I only have Kontakt 7, not 8, and I don’t have Opus.

But Applying one of the factory Playback Templates (as suggested) gives expected results with the piano and panning.

Possibly someone with the other players and Libraries (which libraries are you using in Kontakt and Opus?) can help more.

Are you familiar with this tutorials about Playback in Dorico?

For Kontakt:

  • Audio Imperia Nucleus
  • Piano Uno (which comes with Nucleus)
  • Audio Imperia Chorus

For Opus:

  • EastWest Symphonic Orchestra Woodwinds
  • EastWest Symphonic Orchestra Percussion

I’m not quite familiar with Playback Templates on Dorico. I’ve set everything up manually, including the Expression Maps.

On this page you can find some Playback Templates, which you can combine. (Not sure all your used libraries are included there):

Dorico Resources-Playback Templates

For now I would suggest to study the videos I linked in my previous post, so maybe you find out what is wrong in your setup.

Until you feel comfortable with those concepts, I would suggest to use the factory Playback Templates (and libraries), and build little by little your custom Playback Templates and Expression and Percussion Maps, checking at each stage if everything works as desired.

(But as I said, hopefully someone can help more…).
