Modern tenor clef transposes incorrect

Dear friends,

The modern tenor clef (violin clef with the 8-bassa symbol) is transposing incorrectly. When I change the bass clef to a modern tenor clef, the pitch is displayed as in the violin clef (see image), even after restarting Dorico. What can I do? Thanks!

There are reasons for this (that I can’t recall - but there are threads if you search).

To ‘fix’ it you can simply set the octave shift property…

There is a global setting in Notation Options > Clefs

By default, Ottava clefs are cosmetic only, and do not change the pitch of the notes. You can change this in Notation Options, setting the option for Clefs to “Respect the Octave”.

The early versions of Dorico treated the Tenor as a transposing instrument, like a Contrabass, or a Piccolo – where the octave transposition is implied, but not explicitly stated. (There are, after all, plenty of scores where the Tenor part just has a standard G clef with no 8.) Octave clefs were “cosmetic”, in that they didn’t affect the pitch: that was done in the instrument definition itself. (I believe Sibelius works the same way.…
