If this feature exists or is possible, I cannot seem to find it. Searches favor the modifier key which temporarily disables snap (cmd on mac). This is great. However, when I am doing film scoring and sound design to picture, in particular which is free meter / non-rhythmic (slow pads for example), I don’t like having the grid on by default. But there is the occasion when I need everything to hit an edit point together, where temporarily enabling snapping would be useful.
TLDR; basically the exact opposite of the typical workflow of snap on and then temporarily disabled, I want to work with snap off and temporarily enable.
But it’s quite nice that when it is on, you can temporarily deactivate it while dragging something with the use of a modifier key (on mac it’s cmd). This way you don’t have to toggle it off, but you can align something more precisely without snapping. Basically a momentary switch.
However (if it doesn’t already exist), I’d say there’s a use case for the opposite behavior, where you’re typically working off grid or without snap, and while dragging something you wish to line it up so it snaps to either a bar line or an event such as a marker (in which my case helps identify edit points). So also a momentary switch, same as above but in reverse.
Ideally the team could make it the same modifier key, so really it just temporarily does the opposite of whatever your snap state is toggled to.
