Monitoring recording signal in the control room

Hi there ,I can’t control my monitor volume of my guitar in the control room .I am adjusting the volume in cue 1 in the mixer but nothing is happening I can hear the volume but it won’t turn down ,when I switch the brown monitor button on in the mixer channel I do hear some volume change as if it’s turning down the channel volume but the cue 1 volume remains the same I think ,I am using Cubase 15 and a tascam us 16x08 ,this is the first time I’ve used the control room in ten years ,I used to use an E-mu 0404 USB sound card and had no trouble monitoring in control room in Cubase 9.5 from what I remember. Thanks for any help

Hi,

Is the Cue 1 bus routed to your Headphones/Speakers? Or is the Monitor bus routed to the Headphones/Speakers?

Could you attach a screenshot of the Audio Connections > Control Room, please?

Are you using the “Listen”-function in the CR? That’s for the monitoring without affecting the main mix / rendered sound.

Hi Martin thanks for your reply,it is the monitor that is routed to the output speakers ,the cue 1 is routed to nothing .sorry I can’t get a screen shot maybe tomorrow.

Hi,

In this case, the Cue 1 Volume doesn’t affect what you hear.

To change the overall Monitor Volume, use the big red knob in the Control Room, please.

Thank you Martin that works . As an alternative I routed Cue 1 to channel 3/4 in the soundcard and routed that from the tascam to a spare input in the amp but there was too much signal for some reason,I think that should work in theory but I need to mess with the control room a bit more and get used to it,thanks anyway

Hi,

If you want to decrease the overall Cue 1 Level, do it in the Control Room > Cue 1 > Cue Level (red) fader:

Thanks Martin ,I found that trying to record in Cue 1 while listening to Cue 1 while routed to chan 3/4,I had to enable the monitor button on the guitar track channel in the mixer to be able to hear the guitar while recording which now introduced delay,I don’t think there is anyway round this for me at the moment, so I will probably go back one stage and disconnect cue 1 from chan 3/4 ,I can get by here ,cheers
