Mono 1 and mono 2 recording the same thing

Good afternoon,

I am not an expert so please forgive my ignorance, I just bought a mackie profx10v3, I was using a soundcraft and everything worked great until my computer upgraded to windows 11. Long story short I bought the new mackie.

I am using a mackie profx10v3 with Cubase pro 12. Simple explanation of what is happening is if I record the guitar through mono 1, and then record vocals (separately) through mono 2, the vocals will also record the guitar in the background. In other words as i record tracks, the new tracks are recording the previous tracks over again inside the new track.

After doing some research it says I might have to turn off loopback, it doesn’t even give me the option anywhere to do that.

Also, looking at the levels of mono 1 and 2, they are the same, when I am only playing in one of them.

Looking for some insight.

Thanks.

Check in connections that you have set up the mono channels correctly for the individual inputs. If you have, then it’s something to do with the interface itself in settings. I don’t kniw that interface.

Thanks for the response. The connections are set properly. Which is weird because both channels levels are identical even though they are obviously different channels and different instruments are plugged into each.

Definitely something wrong with your setup
post a picture of connection and channels.
Don’t even understand what you are trying to say in you OP, can you clarify?

Sorry I know I am not explaining it well. You can see how the mono channel one and two are both showing the same levels although they are set to different channels in the audio connections.

Here is an example of my tracks, the guitar was recorded first and you can see the guitar’s in the background of the bass and vocal track when there shouldn’t be any sound at all.

Do you have something like direct monitoring enabled on your interface? This will record what you are hearing as well if turned on.

As far as I know there is no way to turn direct monitoring on or off on the profx10v3 (if anyone knows how please let me know). But even in the studio setup on Cubase it will not let me turn it on or off. Shown in picture.

Your Cubase settings look ok. So it most likely your mixer/interface settings.
Since the Mackie delivers only its main mix to the computer you have to make sure you pan your guitar channel there to either hard left or right and the microphone channel to the other side when sending it to the main mix.

Additionally the BLEND knob should be set hard left.

Yes…what Johnny Monteo says is correct. Really, this mixer is not designed for multitracking. Only for recording the full mix… The 2 channels are left and right mixer outs so if channels 1 and 2 are centre panned then both outs carry the exact same thing.
A mixer with the ability to route channels direct to usb is a better option but you can sort of work around this by panning things fully left or right and recording only that channel.

Thank you very much. I think that fixes it. I appreciate your help very much.
