This may sound a bit strange, so please forgive me if I’m being a complete numpty here…
Most of us know that when you use an insert on a mono channel it gives you a mono version of the effect that you are using. So the solution is place your mono source onto a stereo channel, send it to an FX channel, or send it to a stereo group channel. This is all great, but about if this is a different way around. What if I have a bunch of mono vocal tracks with mono reverbs on them which sound okay. Is there any way I would be able to group all my vocals and use one mono reverb on the sum of the tracks?
As far as I understand if I group all my vocal tracks to a stereo group, the reverb insert (in this case Roomworks) would then be automatically applied in stereo. What if I wanted to just use the effect in mono (for multiple channels at once)? If I use a mono group then some of my pans won’t follow, and if I use separate instances of Roomworks on each individual channel (with the same settings on each one), would this sound different to if I used just one reverb on the sum of the selected channels?
