More flexible fingering text?

Trying to notate some harmonica music. (WEll, not music, actually just some reference material).

Harmonica is notated using a tab-style system, using the numbers 1-10, - to indicate a draw (harmonicas produce a different pitch on suck and blow), and with ’ used to indicate bends. (’ = half step, ‘’ = full step).

So a bit of harmonica music might look like this: “-1 -2” -2’ -2 -3” -3’ -3 -4 5 -4 -5 5 -3’ -2”. Basically I am wanting to combine this with traditionally notated pitches and rhythms.

Right now fingering only seems to support the digits 1-7.

I want fingerings and not, say, text objects, because of the way fingerings attach to noteheads.

This has been requested before. It’s a bit tricky because by default fingering is drawn using a fixed set of music symbols rather than with runs of text. However, it is conceivable that if you choose to use a plain font for fingering rather than the music font, we could potentially allow a wider range of characters to be drawn. This is something that’s on our list to investigate in future.

In the meantime, have you considered using lyrics or Playing Techniques to notate the “fingerings”?

Lyrics don’t work, at least I don’t think so, because the - will trigger advancement to the next syllable. Maybe it works though…not at my Dorico machine.
