Motif xs Rack editor

I’m using the Motif 8 with a 5 pin midi to control the Motif XS rack. The XS is connected via usb to my computer (Cubase Artist 14). I know that the XS midi out 3 will play vsts. The issue is trying to play the Motif rack itself standalone or vst. Using the editor that I installed, how on earth are these midi ports supposed to be set up in the editor? e.g. in the editor, ther’s port 1 (midi in midi out) and port 4 (midi in midi out). With the option of motif-r xs-1,2,3,4, which are the proper numbers to input in each box?

Thanks in advance!

You’ve installed MOTIF-RACK XS Editor and MOTIF-RACK XS Editor VST–and neither is making any sound? If so, the MIDI port setup might not be the problem. These default settings should be fine:

What are the audio outputs of your Motif Rack XS physically attached to (how do you hear the sound from your Rack XS)?

The XS audio is running through a mixer then into a Scarlette audio interface. The XS is also usb-ed to my computer to talk to Cubase. On my screen, port 1 has a box for midi in as well. (unlike the screen shot you have above with 3 boxes) If I set it up the way it looks above, I get a “open ports error”. I’m pretty sure I installed the correct driver along with studio manager. Perhaps you can confirm what the correct driver should be (windows 11). Thank you for your response!!

No sound, right?

I’m pretty sure you no longer need to install/use Studio Manager. You only need MOTIF-RACK XS Editor and MOTIF-RACK XS Editor VST. What’s the port setup look like in those?

I’m on MacOS, but I’ve had Motif Rack XS working with both Windows and Mac.

Do you have those audio inputs active in your Cubase Audio Connections?

Would you please post screenshots of the main windows of your Rack Editor and Rack Editor VST?

When I get home later, I will post some screen shots. I’m at work right now. And yes, the XS is active (checked) in the Cubase midi setup. Thank you. I’ll respond with photos in aprrox 12 hours from now. (working)

Hi James (I think that’s your name). I just wanted to tell you that I uninstalled and reinstalled the editor and now it works as it should. The midi port page looks like your screeshot above. Perfect working order. I would like to thank you for your responses. They meant more than you might think; having someone who takes the time to help is amazing. Have a great holiday season!
