Mouse input without caret: articulations

Hello,

When using mouse input one starts by choosing a duration and then the accidental. Why can’t we choose the articulation before inputting the pitch at a given position (no caret)?

There are several different ways to input notes, and I’m not sure which particular method you’re using. But have you looked at these settings, in Preferences > Note Input and Editing > Note Input? I think the second one will do what you want.

Thanks. Have you tried the method I was using? Deselect everything first. Now select a duration so that you see the notehead in the cursor. Now, if you select an articulation, it does not apply. Using the alternative method, it works, which is by selecting a rest and hitting Enter, then adding duration and articulation. But, sometimes, mouse input from scratch is helpful and intuitive.

I don’t know what your settings are. What do you have selected for the above two input settings?

Default settings as shown. But I guess it doesn’t really matter, does it? The problem is that you can’t specify articulations with the mouse input method.

With factory settings, I’m able to add notes with articulations with the mouse.

Thanks. If you skip clicking the Start Note Input button and go straight to durations, what happens? This is when I get problems. I’m not sure what state it is but one sees the cursor with a notehead.

I guess one is not fully in Note Input Mode??? One would save time not having to push Enter or Shift-N or clicking the Start Note Input button…

I never enter notes with the mouse, so I can’t give you a good answer.

I’m a little surprised that you can select a duration and click it into the score without being in Note Input mode (the mode is activated right after the note entry), but if you can do that, then I agree that you should also be able to select an articulation at the same time. But you see that it does work if you start Note Input first.
