Mouse pointer note selection issue

Hi,

I’ve had this issue, which seems to be specific to my system, whereby my mouse pointer selects multiple notes within a chord when i only want to select one e.g. i’ll click the middle note of a triad, and it will select top two notes, or even whole triad, which is very annoying. Only way around it seems to be to zoom in an extreme amount. Any ideas as to a solution?

thanks

Hi @stevenjosephguitar, and welcome to the Forum.

There is a shortcut to select only one item when it is near or even overlapping other items:

keep Shift+Option(Alt) pressed when clicking: Dorico will select only one item, cycling through the nearby items: each click selects the next nearby item.

I discussed this in a screenshare with Steven, and his note selection does indeed seem to be very different from mine. I can select individual notes (e.g. the middle note of a triad) quite easily, but when he tries to do it, it was resulting in two notes being selected, despite the fact that he was clearly selecting the exact same area I would have done.

Many thanks, this solved it, though obviously it shouldn’t be an issue in the first place so something funny happening specifically on my system. My mouse isn’t cheap either!

If you’re on Windows, it could be related to mouse drivers, but otherwise it’s more likely something to do with the OS’s sensitivity of the click position.

If you have all the notes of a chord selected, you can press the Up or Down arrows to select each note in turn. (However, the direction is the opposite of what you might be expecting.)
