Move barline to make room for custos

I have not found a way to create space for a custos at the end of the staff/stave. I have tried nudging the barline (alt/option with arrow keys) by selecting the top square above it in Engraver Mode but the end of the staff moves with the barline and does not create any space.
I am trying to mimic the layout in the attached image (see the red arrows)

Just my attempt. But I’m not familiar with your example, so I took guitar with TAB

I did hide the end barline by make it a tick barline and adjusting the out and in tick adjustment, then faked a new barline with a vertical line.

Thanks for that example. I don’t need the modern notation at all which I should have mentioned in my post.
Hiding the barline and placing a tick as an articulation could work.
Here is what I came up with.

  1. Deleted all barlines where I wanted to add a custos
  2. Created a tick and custos as Playing Techniques attached to the note just before where the tick is needed.
  3. Manually adjusted their position (not the ideal solution but there are only a few phrases that need it in this setting)

Note: The tick I created does not match the standard tick used for the barline (seen in the middle of the third line). I added two copies of the tick glyph from the Bavura music font in the Barline Range. I placed them side by side but it’s still is not as wide however, I think this solution close enough.

Presumably in this case, you only need to concern yourself with a single layout, and you can also ignore playback. This allows you the freedom to mess things up “behind the scenes”. In this case, would it be an idea to make the custos into a custom notehead, occupying rhythmic space after the barline?

Yes, that is also possible. The long chanting block is a modified breve. I could make the custos from a whole note since I don’t think the whole would be needed elsewhere.
