Move beginning of hairpin (afterwards)

Hi all,

I have something like this in my score:

How can I now move the beginning of the hairpin to the right. It should start later.

However, if possible, I dont want to start inputting the dynamics again, just drag the hairpin.

Thanks!

I think you’d need to begin the hairpin on beat 1 of the second bar. You can do this for all the staves at once though.

Thanks Daniel, yes, I would like to start the hairpin later, in the middle of the next bar.

I could start all over again with the caret. But I wonder, if it is possible at this stage to just access the existing hairpins and moving there beginning to the right. That would be practical and quick. Thanks!

What you can do:

  • Ungroup Dynamics twice (not sure why twice, but twice!)
  • Link Dynamics
  • Move the left handle of the hairpin with Ctrl+Alt+Right arrow
  • Re-group Dynamics if you want

Thanks much Charles. It works.

(Though I’m surprised, how complicated Dorico sometimes is.)

In case it helps, you can create shortcuts for Group/Ungroup, Link/Unlink. That’s what I did and it’s quite helpful for this kind of situation.

I wonder if that’s a bug or something. I’m still on Dorico 5 (macOS) and I’ve always only had to do it once.

I second the idea to map them to keyboard shortcuts. Or ‘J’ for jump bar and just start typing what you want (ungroup, then link).

Although sometimes in cases like this I do find re-entry using the note input mode to be easier and faster, rather than entering dynamics on the first selected note and having to readjust after the fact. In particular if you know where you want everything to land you can just move rhythmically with the caret and input dynamics exactly where you want.
