Okay, so this is a pretty simple thing, but it has been bugging me for years. If it can be fixed/updated it would really be helpful!
When you change the start time of a project to after the start time of an audio file, you can no longer move the audio file to its original position. Let me explain…
- Record an audio file at 01.10.00.00, and let’s say it goes to 01.14.00.00 (4min long)
- change your project start time to 01.11.00.00 (one minute later)
- this is very common in film scoring
- Then cut your original audio file anywhere after the one minute mark, say 2min into the audio file. Still plenty of material that is after the project start time
- I then want to be able to move the edited audio file to its timestamp.
But I can’t. I get an error saying that “event cannot be moved, origin is before project start”.
Now I get that this is technically accurate, the start of the audio file is before the project stat timecode.
What I’m asking for is that Cubase look at my edit, read the timecode where of where the edit is and then move that region to it’s correct position. That way I can reference the back half of the audio file.
Unfortunately, the only timecode cubase looks at is the start of the audio file. It doesn’t realize that I’ve cut off the front of the file.
Even. if the project start time is past the original file’s start time by one second this becomes an issue.
I know Logic used to be able to do this, so I assume it’s not that difficult from a technical perspective. I also have plenty of work arounds that are fine, and only take a few extra steps.
But if possible, I would really appreciate Cubase changing this feature. Thanks!
