How do I move a section of several bars (in this case 32 bars) from one place to an earlier place in a score. I need to move everything, including meter changes, dynamics, articulations, and chord symbols—the whole section of the score—in addition to notes.
If you are not confident using Insert Mode:
Go to the insert point, select the barline and add 32 bars by using the shift-b popover:
shift-b 32 Enter.
Make sure the System Track is visible.
Select your 32 bars in the System Track, tick the little box at the end of your selection, copy/cut, and paste to the insertion point.
If you are confident using Insert Mode, you can leave the first step and paste directly to the insert point, using Insert Mode.
Thanks. That’s what I finally figured out, using insert global (would simple insert have done it as well?). It was a little glitchy—didn’t capture all the meter changes, but the note values were all correct and I could add in the missing meter changes and everything came out even at the end of the copied section.
Dorico will only copy things that are selected (it will not include hidden objects). So it’s a good idea when doing these bulk copies to do view>signposts>show all signposts before making the selection.
Good advice. In this case, no time signatures were hidden; just some didn’t seem to be copied (most did).
I’m still inclined to think user error!
Fritz, if you do the selection exactly as I described (System Track & click the selection box), everything will be selected. You will actually visually see, that also time signatures will be part of it. Also keep the advice to make signposts visible, so you can be sure that everything is selected:
To be more precise, some time signatures did not seem to be pasted. But no doubt it was user error.
kb, I think I did do the selection exactly as you described, but obviously as J suggests, some user error occurred. Thanks for the advice about signposts, but there were none in the section I copied. At any rate, all is well. The missing meter changes were easily inserted and the notes all fell into place correctly.
Once you have done the selection via the System Track, you will actually see that the time signatures are included in the selection (=they show in orange). If they don’t, you have not done the selection the way as described, esp. clicking the box to the right.
If the time signatures don’t appear to be selected, there is no point for you proceeding with a cut/copy. Just watch closely what is happening.
Yes, I understand that. As noted: although I thought I had done it right, apparently I didn’t.
