if i go into system preferences within dorico (command ,) and there I choose ‘keyboard shortcuts’, i can choose ‘keyboard language’. i chose ‘standard’ because i thought it is ‘neutra’ and independent from my real hardware keyboard. that was just a mis-belief, which caused some problems 
Ah, I didn’t realize “standard” was a Dorico option. In the English version of Dorico that option is called “default” not “standard”.
I suppose it means “the same language as the user interface,” which (guessing from your signature, and the fact that you used the word “standard”) is not English.
