Moving 3rd party plugins to a new folder within the same drive

Hi all,

I have a folder that I titled after Cubase version I was using at the time. Doesn’t make sense, unsure why I did that to be honest. my folder organisation in the past is one to be admired.

If I rename the folder, would I come across any issues? I assume some plugins will want to be pointed to the new name.

This is something im just confirming to get second rather than just going ahead and renaming. I think it’ll be fine, but just wondering. I’ll have to add the new folder to the

some plugins only work if installed by an installer on your system. some work freely if you move them around IF they are VST2. VST3 plugins must be in the exact folder selected by Cubase. So with the information you have provided who knows what results you will get.

Yeah I hear that.

So youre saying- if i understand correctly - renaming the folder could potentially be train wreck because some components might be directed to that file foldername?

Id assume most would ask to be pointed the right place?

Ive just come across a load of files related to Cubase, ironically, because this a for i created for 3rd party plugins.

I found load of these files, how did they even get there? Cubase download assistant hasnt been directed to place files in this folder at all.

anyone got any idea, shouldnt these be on c: drive in a cubase folder

if I get rid or more thses thats a nice 55.0 GB of memory freed up that I need rightnow

these files are from the Steinberg Download Assistant. If you select “install all” when you installed Cubase I would assume they are from that, unless you have bougth some ekstra soundsets. you can move and delete them safely from the Steinberg library manager

Albright that’s cool then ive never bought any soundsets! thats excellent. I was down to 5GB on my secondary drive, that might have afforded me a month or 2  . However, I do recognise some of the names from within cubase’ side panel.. so maybe ill just move them on to C drive within a Cubase folder & keep the same “VST sounds”

Also, within download assistant, isit okay to clear all the downloaded files? my downloads are downloading to c:…..\Downloads\Steinberg…..XYZ installing and never deletes after download/insall process, ill assume its fine to delete these.

yes the downloads are safe to delete. The vstsound files can also be deleted, just will just loose sounds in vst´s like halion sonic and so on. The great thing about the library manager is recommended to use. It will show all these vstsound files and what they are connected to, it will show in different categories so check it out. if you are short on space just select remove from the stuff you do not want, or if you have a 2nd drive you can easily move them over and keep the internal linkage intact
