Moving bar to previous system in Dorico 6

Hi all,

Just downloaded Dorico 6 and have read several posts here, on reddit, and even watched the youtube short on this topic, but it seems each version has different answers that seem to not apply to the most up-to-date version of Dorico 6.

I am trying to move a single bar into the previous system, to accommodate a 2nd ending of a repeat before moving on to the next system but it keeps wanting to either use strictly 4 bars/system, or have this one bar be one system(?).

How can I simply move this one bar to the previous system? I see answers mostly regarding engraving mode, but the options I have seen online do not seem to appear in the version I have.

Thanks so much!

If you do not have the Pro version, do you have Dorico Elements?
Information here for Elements (and Pro):

Engrave mode, if you do not see its button at the top, Window menu > Engrave

Hi @alistairiansteed, if the suggestion by @arco doesn’t work, you have probably already some system break, or a casting-off layout option that gives this unwanted result: if so please upload your Dorico file so we can see what exactly is causing the issue.

Thanks all! Yes I can click ‘engrave mode’ in the window menu, but none of those engraving functions appear. I searched ‘system’ in the help bar, and there are no options for ‘move to previous system’ or ‘move bars between systems’.

Are the Engrave Mode functions only available in the paid version?

You have Dorico SE then? You are correct, no Engrave mode in SE. I am not sure you can move a bar to the previous system although I see you have asked a similar question in another thread? Someone might have a way to do this in SE.

Indeed, this is probably not intended behaviour: in menu Window I think Engrave should be greyed out or have a lock icon, like other functionalities that are not available in Dorico SE (@Richard_Lanyon)

By chance, are you using the iPad version?
