Moving Dorico 4 to a new computer and network

Need to replace the computer. How can I move Dorico 4 to a new computer?

Open the Steinberg activation manager and remove the license from the old computer.
Download the Steinberg download assistant on the new one, log in, and install everything under Dorico 4.
Finally, activate the new one with the Steinberg activation manager.

Thanks, Jesper. Let me add a few more details about this question. Initially, Dorico 4 was purchased online in 2022. It was used on a windows desktop. I later purchased a Surface Pro and wanted to use Dorico on that device. I copied all the Dorico files and downloaded them to the surface. Dorico worked fine. Surface crashed for other reasons. I took the copy of the downloaded files from the Windows machine and loaded those to a Windows G10 mini pc. It works fine. I am now trying to download and use Dorico on an additional G10 mini at my church work location. Is this possible and can it be accomplished? I have downloaded the files from the original copied files from the first windows machine. When I try to open the program, it wants me to Launch the activation manager. For some reason, I can’t launch the manager. The process stops there. I realize this is a complicated paragraph. Any advice is appreciated.

You should not simply copy files from one machine to another, because under Windows these programs need a registration of several program components.

Just download the Download Assistant from the Steinberg Website and install that package. It will automatically install all the other required components, like the Activation Manager and from here you install Dorico on the new machine.

I’m a Mac guy, so others will have better advice. You can have 3 authorizations at the same time. If you don’t have access to a computer, you can de-authorize online at your Steinberg account.

Thank you, JuergenP. That worked! I guess I was making it too complicated and tried to accomplish the move in the wrong way.

Glad it works for you now. Enjoy Dorico.

If you’re planning to keep using Dorico, then I’d recommend that you consider upgrading to version 6.

Although Version 4 should work well and is very capable, it is nearly 4 years old, and since then many new features have been added, many limitations removed, and many new improvements made.

Is there a special price to upgrade from Dorico 4 to version 6?

Yes, it’s $199 to upgrade from v4.
