Moving notes up and down in drum notation

Hi there,

New Dorico user from Finale. I have Dorico 3.5 and for the life of me I can’t seem to move notes up and down the score when in drum notation (tried shift+ arrow up or down with no success). Also is there a way to use the point and insert option?

I don’t do much with drums, but I think it’s because these are technically each difrerent instrurmernts. Try Alt-M or Alt-N to move notes up or down?

Well…Alt-M or N doesn’t work BUT I just tried ALT + Arrow up or down and it seems to work! Thank you for the lead!

As of now you are not able to use the move or duplicate commands up/down (M & N) on percussion staves, although I hope to see this change in the future to be consistent with other type of staves, and make doubling a little faster.

Of course… I read your post too quickly. Sorry. Alt-arrow is the normal command for moving notes and other things as well.

Since I’m on a roll: is there a way to erase 1 note from a stack (say hat-bass-tom, erase only the tom). Also moving the note only works when there’s a single note but not when they are stacked (hat-bass stack can’t move hat or bass to any other position). Missing something?

I am not exactly sure what you mean by stack but I think if I understand you correctly you’re talking about when having a drum kit on a single 5-line staff? That I know of there is no way to filter a selection to individual drums on a staff like that. I usually prefer to edit kits on single-line instruments (and then condense to 5-line after) – try layout options > players > percussion > single-line instruments to see if that helps you here. The downside is you won’t be able to move notes between each staff, but it definitely makes complex selection and timing a lot easier.
