I need help moving a system to page 1 of a score. Even though this topic has been discussed, I cannot find the reason why the system at the top of page 2 won’t go into the space at the bottom of page 1.

Hi @jk3horn,
in bar 1 select the frame break, and in the properties panel uncheck Wait for next frame break
in bar 16 select the frame break (this caused the 3rd system to go on page 2), and in the properties panel set it as system break
to eliminate the system space override for the second system in Engrave mode choose menu Engrave>Staff Spacing>Reset layout
I find also generally very strange that you made all the notes size to 85% with a property override… Would not be better to decrease the space size in layout options, instead?
Because there is an explicit frame break at page 2. A frame break is actually a page break.
By the way you have inserted a lot of system and frame breaks and you did a lot of manual staff and note spacing. Please don’t do that, Dorico’s default note and staff spacing is pretty fine.
I removed all manual stuff in Engrave Mode (note spacing / staff spacing and the breaks)

Edit: And with slightly reduced page margins (10 mm /0.4 in top and bottom and 12.7 mm / 0.5 in left and right) and increased inter-staff gap it looks still better (in my opinion)
Thank you very much for you help. In order to get the whole score on 2 pages, should I move measures to previous system? I know it will squeeze each bar but I want a 2 page score.
Moving systems is the “ultima ratio” if the global settings don’t work.
To fit the music on two pages I set the rastral size to 6 in Layout Options / Page Setup and the default space for crotchet/ quarter note to 3 in Layout Options / Note Spacing to get the music evenly spaced. There are no manual adjustments at all!
Thanks for your help. You have shown me some very helpful information that I never knew about.
Wonderful!!! Thanks. I appreciate you help and teaching me about Layout Options to fix spacing instead of manual adjustments.
You’re welcome. I just noticed the 85% scaling. This is not necessary. My proposed settings in Edit_3 look rather well even with 100% note size. Select all, filter for Notes and Chords and switch off the scaling property.
Yes. I did that as per the suggestion from Christian_R.
Jeffry,
in addition to Christian’s and Stefan’s advices: if you like the look of smaller noteheads, select all your music, Filter by Notes and Chords and (via the right click menu) choose Notehead → Default Noteheads.
This turns the noteheads into a slightly smaller version.
Dorico’s own default are the “Larger Noteheads”.
That’s is a wonderful technique. Thank you.
