So my two trumpet parts both have “use multi-bar rests” checked in Layout options, but both parts show a 4 bar multi-rest followed by one bar or rest. What gives?

There is a time signature change (is this an XML import?) in bar 5. In the full score in Write Mode select the barline (the left one) and press delete.
It’s recommended to show the signposts, it reveals such phenomena at once.
