Multibar rests disappearing

Hi all,

I have a weird situation where in one part of my score (one player layout I mean), I’m able to tell it to add multibar rests, and it does, but if I go to another layout and then come back, it’s gone, reverted back to many measures with empty bar rests. There are no signposts or other information in the bars. As I said, the multibar rest does appear at first, so it seems to be working, but only momentarily.

Any thoughts?

Are you able to reproduce this? Can you upload a project file that demonstrates the issue?

16. Key 2 - Song Title.dorico (1.4 MB)

Toggle between Write or Engrave and Print. You’ll see the multibar rests disappearing.

Manually hidden chord symbols are breaking the multibar rests.

You should probably hide chord symbols in Setup and use chord symbol regions where you do want them to show.

If I create a new part layout, I can see that there are chord symbols every bar that prevents multi-rests.

Hi, thanks for the responses. I think I have to develop a new work flow for this, unfortunately. I put in all the info, then make chord regions wherever there is music for that player, then go to Setup and select Show Chords Symbols in Chord Regions, as suggested above. (Lots of steps, and sounds like I’ll have to do all that for every rhythm section instrument? Not ideal…)

Actually, strange thing is that I have to do it for Key 2, but not for Guitar or Bass. Something to do with it being a grand staff instrument, rather than single staff?

Hmm, this might just be a bug. If I switch to Between Staves, then click Hidden, the multibar rests consolidate as expected. Gif below:

Hi Fred, this has been my suspicion as well, because I haven’t had this problem before…
