Multiple instrument option for tabs?

I don’t know if anyone has raised this topic before, or cares much regarding it, but I would personally love the ability to create a new tab for Write Mode in which multiple instruments may be added.

For example, a tab might be populated with flute, horn, and violin, which in the Full score are normally separated by several staves. A separate view of such three instruments grouped together could be quite useful for developing passages in which parts for the instruments are interwoven, without the need to scroll up and down in the Full score for writing, comparing, and editing the parts.

I realize that when current tabs are instantiated, that they persist - quite usefully, of course - in Engrave Mode, and that in Engrave mode a multi-instrument tab would likely be not useful or perhaps inadvisable. There may be many reasons to maintain only single-instrument tabs.

The best news might be that such a separated grouping of particular instruments for viewing and editing is already possible through another functionality. In any case I thought I might ask.

Many thanks,

Chuck

If you work in Galley view, you can use an instrument filter to show only certain staves.

If you prefer working in Page view, then you can create a new layout containing the instruments you want to see.

Adding to @asherber : you can have different tabs with different filters active

edit: some strange things do happen there, different filters show in different tabs, but same staffs seem to be selected …

Thanks, all! That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Confoundingly, I knew this once upon a distant time.

Many thanks,

Chuck

Thanks, TonH.

I’m not seeing an instrument filter in the Tab views, however. Could you elaborate a bit on how to make that happen?

If you create an instrument filter the way @asherber showed, those are visible in tabs too

And you can select different filters for each tab too.

However, if you switch between the tabs, you see the same staffs, independent of the filter shown.

Don’t know if that’s expected

OK, many thanks. I got it. It’s the Full score in a new tab that you can filter again. I was thinking that it was one of the instruments in the tab and that you could filter on that, but now that I write that out I realized that of course you can’t filter the one instrument - it’s already filtered, as it were.

Again, many thanks,

Chuck
