I’d like more physical inputs, please. Multiple outputs aren’t really needed, but 256 is already too few these days. Thank you.
You use more than 256 inputs?
Yes, we use it. For some time now, we have been fighting for more inputs in Cubase/Nuendo, but still no response, although I think that in this day and age of computer processing speed, it shouldn’t be such a problem. I suppose it’s not a priority
I doubt anybody uses that many simultaneously, but a lot of people have setups using AVB OR Dante and try to have everything permanently patched in and named in cubase.
When you start throwing drum machines into the mix, the available channel count starts going down real fast.
Yes, that’s right. We don’t use all the devices at once, but as you write, the point is to keep everything plugged in because then it’s a hassle/delay to swap cables/setups. Yes, we use AVB.
There are many applications where more than 256 inputs is necessary. There was one poster some years ago that recorded 192 I/O and those needed to also be available as mono, stereo and 5.1 setups all at once for broadcast processing and things like that and was constantly hitting the 256 limit in Nuendo.
I read the post once… but that’s a different level. We only have stereo/mono synths/drummers, so just expand the number of inputs. Only a few outputs are needed, so the setup could be asymmetrical (384/128, etc.).
I’m still of the opinion that no top trim DAW in 2026 should limit the amount of I/O you can have. If anything, Cubase is the only DAW that does that these days. Others will just accept as much I/O your system can handle.
Logic doesn’t have unlimited inputs either and there are definitely other DAWs out there… but I agree that it shouldn’t be a problem these days. It’s the only reason we don’t use Cubase, but Bitwig.
+1
I agree with OP, there shouldn’t be a hard limit on number of input channels. I also think there shouldn’t be a limit on group channels, FX channels or any other track or channel type. Furthermore, limitations on number of sends, cues and insert slots also feels a bit archaic.
Let lobby for a limitless Cubendo!
