Multiple Players/Sound Patches for One Part

Hello everyone,

I’m new to this, so please excuse me if this is a question that’s been done to death.

Trying to figure out how to assign multiple samples/players to a part, say the first violins, in Dorico, while still only having a single Violin 1 staff in the layout.

What I mean is this: first violins will be set up as a section player, which is fine. But what if, for the purposes of playback/mockup, I want to assign multiple individual first violin player samples to that part (say from Berlin Strings) as opposed to a single “ensemble” patch.

I haven’t dug in yet, but looks like Berlin Strings has multiple individual players.

Can I do that in Dorico itself, or would I have to do it in Cubase, copying the track and it’s MIDI data to say Violin 1.2, Violin 1.3, and then assigning the different patches to build up the section?

Thanks,

Al

Some VST players allow one to assign multiple MIDI inputs. HALion does, as does Garritan’s Aria Player. This approach does not permit mixing multiple VST’s from separate vendors, of course. So far that (unless one uses something like Bidule) is the only way to accomplish what you are after (AFAIK).
