Hey! I was wondering if anything has changed in 6 years:) Is there an easy way to add these staccato markings?
Hi @maxenderm, no change for this (Dorico 6.1.10). The suggested method of creating a custom Playing technique (only once and forever, well until some other functionalities will be introduced) is quite easy, and you can then apply the dots with a click (or using the PT popover).
Alternatively you can change an unused articulation (make sure you change both the above and below one):
Thank you for your help!
I also have another question about that - If I make it into a playing technique, is there any way I can make it follow the note and be able to be positioned below/above/or in between the staff lines? Right now, it only stays at the top. I don’t even know how to make it appear bellow the note, even though I made both textures - above and below.
*Just to clarify - by moving between the lines, I meant behaving exactly like a regular staccato marking does when you change the pitch of the note (If the note is C5 then the staccato is under the 5th line, if the note is A4, then it’s above the first line, and so on).
Select the PT and press F to flip its position.
If you create the 4 dots as a custom Playing Technique, I am afraid you need to position it manually inside the staff.
That’s why possibly using the second approach I suggested (changing an unused articulation) is more convenient: there are Engraving Options to decide that a particular type of articulation can be drawn inside the staff automatically:
Thank you that helped me a lot! Just to be sure, there is no way to change the way articulations look on the leftside panel, is there?
Thank you in advance! I appreciate you taking the time to help me!
No that I know: you can only change the resulting glyph when they are applied (as explained above).
