Multiple versions of NP at the same time?

Hi all you experts

I have some old projects written with older versions of NotePerformer, and their playback is significantly different in NP5 than the, say, NP4 playback of the original. I am auditioning with some of these works in the next few weeks and am dismayed they do not sound as I remember them.

I am particularly concerned with, as explained by Arne, the ditching of the staccato overlay in NP5 - thus giving a ‘wah’ effect when an instrument comes in, instead of the former nice clean attack with the instrument ‘speaking’ instantly. As some of these projects are immense works, I have neither the time nor the inclination (never mind the ability!) to amend these to sound ‘proper’ in NP5. So…

Is it possible for Dorico Pro 6 to run several versions of NP so that I can pick the version of NP I want for playback?

I intend to write future compositions with NP5, as the program, generally, is fabulous. It is the only VST I use.

If the answer is negative, then is there a way of executing a clean attack under NP5, particularly the brass, with simple modifications? I do not want to go into DAWs and all that - I just like the convenience of D6 and NP for my mockups.

Thanks

Pete

Yes, I experienced the very same thing when NP5 was first released and the excitement of that release quickly dissipated. I’m pretty certain you can’t use multiple versions. I personally reverted back to version 4.5.1 and this is what I’d suggest. I still had my old installer, but if you haven‘t still got yours, I think you should be able to get it from the NP website. You will have to uninstall v.5.

if you install one version, it then replaces the other. However some of use spent time trying out v5 with the new NP Performance Engine (which was quickly withdrawn) against the old version which meant switching back and forth. Fortunately, the installation takes more or less seconds so isn’t too arduous but it’s not like Dorico when you can have two two versions installed at the same time.

As NPPE is for me the raison d’etre of NotePerfomer, I’m stuck with 4.5.1 like @Grainger2001

Thanks for the clarification on the installation process @dko22, I had forgotten how relatively straight forward it was to switch versions, provided one has the installers of course.

Thanks guys.

DIdn’t realise I could switch so easily - will give it a try
