Multiple virtual instruments per staff

Hi,

I vaguely remember that this topic has been treated in the past, but I can’t find it.

What I want to do is to create a composite instrument for playback of a staff. To be more precise, I would like to play a Violin part with the following virtual instruments:

  • VSL VI Violin for the basic techniques
  • Xsample Contemporary Solo Violln for extended technique
  • conTimbre for more extended techniques

There are two solutions coming to mind:

a) Use different voices in the same staff for the different virtual instruments;
b) Use separate Dorico instruments for each of the virtual instruments, and switch to the instruments when you need that technique.

I think solution (a) to be the cleanest one. Starting and ending voices would also make a clean score. Would it work?

Paolo

Yes, you can use the strategy you identify as (a). This is what the independent voice playback feature introduced in Dorico 3 is for.

Thank you, Daniel. Very nice, and very powerful!
