Hello,
I am producing an audio postcard of my region; the sound is spatialized and output across six channels and six speakers.
I would like to produce a stereo version. I have configured the tracks for stereo, but I can’t find the export method—or a way to merge the right-hand tracks into one and do the same for the left.
Do you have a solution that doesn’t involve just copy-pasting?

Maybe the Mix6to2 plugin could help here?

I also think there was a similar thread on the forum discussing surround downmix/export. It might be worth having a look.

My situation is different. I have 167 spatialized tracks that need to be converted to stereo.
I found a solution—though not a very stable one—by using “event selection” and mixing down to a single track. It has plenty of minor flaws, but it gives me an idea of the result.
Of course, if anyone has a viable solution, I’m all ears.

Hey, I’m very sorry, but with the current information I can’t quite understand the problem yet, since normally a downmix plugin would be the first thing that comes to mind for a setup like this.

However, there are several ways a six-speaker setup could be implemented. For example, it could be a simple discrete routing where tracks are sent directly to individual speakers, or it could be a proper surround or even Dolby Atmos workflow.

If you could provide a few more details about your setup (or perhaps a screenshot of the routing), it would be much easier to understand the actual problem and suggest a suitable solution.

  • Are your source files mono, stereo, or multichannel (e.g. 5.1 or Atmos)?
  • How is the spatialization done?
  • Are you using dedicated surround or Dolby Atmos tools?
  • Are all 167 tracks routed through a common surround bus, or are they routed directly to the six speaker outputs?

The answers will probably determine whether this is a downmix issue or a routing/setup issue.

Sorry for the delay in replying.
So, the spatialization is handled via simple routing from the tracks to the speakers. I output audio from my PC via USB to an external Behringer UMC 1820 sound card, which handles the distribution—sending each track directly to a specific speaker.
To create a stereo mixdown, I assign tracks to either the left or right channel; however, I haven’t yet figured out how to export the mix so that all right-channel signals are summed onto a single track, and likewise for the left.
If I copy the tracks as events, I get the basic audio, but I lose the effects and other arrangements.

From your latest description, I think the difficulties in creating a proper stereo mixdown may be caused by the current setup or routing.

You should also be able to use the Control Room to monitor a stereo downmix without having to export the entire project first. That could be a quick way to check whether the downmix itself is what you’re looking for.

However, It might be worth having a look at Cubase’s surround setup and routing workflow.
The Manual explains the concepts quite well:

I hope this helps. At the moment, I can’t think of another solution than double checking your current setup, especially the routing configuration.

If anyone else has another idea or solution, I’d be interested to hear it as well.
