I don’t know why this is so hard, but I cannot figure out how to accomplish what I need to accomplish: I want to add a Vocal Ensemble group(?) to my score. I want one treble clef staff, and one tenor clef staff. I want them bracketed together with a single staff label of “Ensemble.” I need to be able to split (divisi) each staff individually to accommodate up to 4 different soprano parts and 4 different tenor parts. I also need each staff/divisions to be hidden when empty. If anyone knows how to accomplish this, please explain it to me like I’m a third grader because I just don’t get it. Thanks!!
Thanks, but I’d like the word “Ensemble” to be the staff label (rather than “Soprano” and “Tenor.”
This is what I’m trying to get to. But I’d need the “Vocals” group to be able to be split, expand, hide, etc.
My first example is probably the closest I can get (you can remove Staff Labels in Layout Options), but I can’t seem to figure out how to rotate the Group label so it’s horizontal.
There are many knowledgeable engravers here, perhaps you’ll get a better suggestion.
Thank you for trying!
Just an FYI, my first example uses Soprano and Tenor section voices, grouped in setup mode with group label changed to Ensemble.
That’s basically my first example. Any way to get the group label horizontal?
Ah, maybe it is, sorry. No, about horizontal group labels.

Thank you for the reply! yeah, very similar to derAbgang’s response. At least I’m not the only one who’s puzzled by this. ![]()
For the group vocals, if you use the “Choir Reduction” instrument, you should be able to add divisi as needed and keep the group label horizontal.
(You’ll probably want to change the bracket, because it uses a piano brace by default!)
This is the closest to what I’m looking for, thanks! I can change the bracket easy enough. Is there a way to hide the bracket when only one staff from that group is visible? Only the treble clef for example?
The problem with this is it is a grand staff behind the scenes and as such, can only be divided from the top staff, i.e., you can’t divide the lower staff. If that’s OK with @TheParadiddles , great.
I just noticed that. That might take a bit of work around. But, I’m not sure I’m going to be able to get exactly what I’m aiming for here. Thanks again!
Yeah, bummer. All-in-all, it feels a bit clunkier than I originally thought! Sorry!
