MusicXML Import crashing Cubase process, churning CPU - urgent issue

Hi folks,

I’m hoping someone can help me out with a problem I’m having pulling MusicXML data from Sibelius into Cubase 12 Pro (latest version) using the MusicXML importer. As you can see here, I’m running version 12.0.70 in Windows 11.

I have had significant issues with Cubase crashing on me when I try to this import to load the MIDI tracks from these files into an existing project, so today I have tried to do the import into a brand new project, which seems to have been successful. However, Cubase has become unresponsive, and has been churning at 15-25% of the total CPU available to an 8-core Core i7 laptop with 32GB of RAM for several minutes.

The crashes I experienced yesterday resulted in me being unable to restart Cubase due to a licensing server issue (probably didn’t clean out the license in use properly), so this latest issue has occurred within minutes of a clean reboot of the laptop.

As you can see, the Cubase.exe process has been flogging my CPU for over 15 minutes so far. Task Manager Details

I am trying to get a composition completely mixed down and exported to audio by Friday for a Uni deadline. I’m up to my fourth project crash trying to get MusicXML data into the project (which is why I’ve tried to start again clean this time) and I’m stressing out. I have already submitted crash reports for the previous problems.

Some timely assistance would be appreciated.

Just confirming that this is repeatable after creating a blank project before trying the import. There’s more than 100GB free on the disk drive so it shouldn’t be virtual memory related.

For the record, I have found a workaround of sorts. I’ve been able to successfully import MIDI, but doing so has removed all the articulation data from the project, which means I’m having to go through each of many parts applying articulation maps for 17 parts, spanning nearly 30 instrument tracks over 150 bars of music.
